How it's calculated
Semitones = 12 × log₂(1 + pitch/100). +6% ≈ +1.01 semitones: 8A (A minor) moves up to 3A (B♭ minor). Each semitone is 7 steps clockwise on the wheel. If the result isn't close to a whole number, the track sits between two keys.
Frequently asked questions
How much pitch raises the key by one semitone?
About +5.9%. One semitone down is about −5.6%. Settings in between leave the track between two keys.
Does the key change with key lock (Master Tempo) on?
No. Key lock changes the tempo and keeps the key; this calculator applies with key lock off, when the deck plays like a record.
How much does the BPM change with pitch?
By the pitch percentage: a 128 BPM track at +4% plays at 133.1 BPM.
